She is the recipient of multiple NHMRC Fellowships, including the prestigious NHMRC Investigator Grant (L3), the first ever awarded to a speech pathologist in Australia. A speech pathologist by training, Professor Togher began her career with more than 15 years of clinical practice supporting people with brain injury and their families. She now directs the Acquired Brain Injury Communication Lab at The University of Sydney, where her research has shaped global best practices in communication rehabilitation, family‑centred intervention, and supported communication training. Professor Togher has published over 250 papers, four books, and more than 20 book chapters, and has attracted over $40 million in competitive research funding. Her contributions have been recognised with major awards from Speech Pathology Australia, ASSBI, ASHA and the NHMRC Elizabeth Blackburn Clinical Research Fellowship. She serves on several international boards and editorial committees, including as Chair of the International Brain Injury Association, Chair of Brain Injury Australia and Chair of the Editorial Board for Brain Impairment.
