Description

Hearing loss has negative consequences for the person with the hearing loss and for those around them. Adults with hearing loss would like to become more effective communicators, and to have strategies to cope better with everyday life. Many of them would want a rehabilitation option in addition to, or other than, hearing aids. Improved communication does make a positive difference to the lives of people with hearing loss.

Learning Objective:

    • to introduce concepts and terminologies to professionals for understanding of recent hearing device technology
    • to facilitate professionals to respond to their patients' queries regarding hearing aid fitting
    • to equip professionals with strategies to help their patients with hearing loss to become effective communicators and cope better in everyday life

Biography of Speakers

Dr. Iris Ng is the Chief of Division of Audiology, Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. She was trained as a clinical audiologist, and registered as a member of the Register of Audiologists accredited by the Department of Health. She serves the community with identification and rehabilitation of hearing and communication difficulties. She, and the Division of Audiology led by her, is currently engaged in a few research and community projects on management of hearing loss among older adult population, as well as the effect and outcome evaluation of various hearing prostheses. She has also worked for over 10 years on the application of psychometrics, in the development and validation of standardised assessment tools in speech and hearing sciences.

      • All video or audio recording, or using mobile devices for filming or photography is prohibited during the seminar.
      • Contingency Plan in case of Bad Weather: If Typhoon Signal No. 3, Red or Amber Rainstorm Signal is hoisted, the seminar will be held as scheduled. If Typhoon Signal No.8 or above, or Black Rainstorm Signal remains hoisted by 6:30am on the event date, or other unforeseeable circumstances, the seminar will be cancelled. You will be informed of the re-scheduled arrangement by email in due course.
